The Opening weekend for Disclosure Day has come and gone and we have been left with a somewhat empty feeling. With a $195 million budget, $115 million for the film and another $80 million spent on marketing, it is hard to see this opening weekend as a massive success. While the domestic box office was unimpressive, Spielberg continues to have pull at the worldwide box office, bringing in $92.9 million. The hype behind this movie, built from the teaser trailer and the eventual full length trailer, felt real and I was surprised by the unimpressive domestic box office. Releasing in the summer could be the main culprit for the unimpressive numbers. Spielberg does seem to have a slower burn to his movies in his later years, so the box office could continue to rise as people see and talk about it more. With an 80% critics score, the movie is being received well. There have been rave reviews for Emily Blunt’s performance, with some critics saying she could be a front runner for the Oscars this year. I wasn’t able to make it to the movies this week with life being so busy, so just wanted recap of what critics and the box office is saying. I’m looking forward to seeing it and reviewing it this week!
